Brain Gym ® Course Details
Brain Gym ® is now being used in many schools across the UK and improvements in concentration levels, behaviour and specific literacy and numeracy skills are being reported. Its proven benefits for learning and behaviour have led to it being accepted as an 'Exemplary Learning strategy' by the US National Learning Found-ation which is a US Government body for education. The movements were initially developed to help children with learning difficulties and learning "blocks" as they can have a profound effect, enabling neural pathways to develop the brain. They are now being used however, in schools, to assist all children to develop their full, often well hidden, potential.
Recent research into the brain shows that it is a "plastic" organ and can be remoulded. As one professor of Neurology says "Teachers are like neurosurgeons - they are sculpting the brains of our children". This sculpting, as it is occurring anyway, may as well be done as effectively as possible and Brain Gym ® can be helpful in this process.
An Introduction to Brain Gym ®
1 Day Workshop
This one day workshop is an ideal whole school INSET designed to introduce all your staff to the practical uses of Brain Gym ® within the classroom. These skills can be used on a whole class or one-to-one basis.
You will learn the Brain Gym ® movements and how they can be beneficial for all children and particularly those with learning difficulties. Brain Gym ® can be used as a tune up before the lessons or by using specific Brain Gym ® movements for children with specific difficulties. As it is working directly with physical and neurological function rather than purely on the symptoms, the effects can be profound from these seemingly simple exercises. Overlap in improvement from one skill area to another is also common.
The Brain Gym ® Foundation Course
4 Day Workshop
This course is certified by the Educational Kinesiology (UK) Foundation, the only body authorised to run Brain Gym ® courses in the UK.
It is a comprehensive introduction to the use of Brain Gym ® and the first step on the route to becoming a Brain Gym ® Consultant or Instructor (if you wish). The course covers all aspects of Brain Gym ® and much background information. At the end of the course you will be able to:
- Use the most appropriate of the 25 Brain Gym ® Exercises
- Understand the "Action Balance" process
- Help children to overcome learning blocks
- Assist children to improve co-ordination and reduce stress
